Facing challenges

From the core areas in a functioning adult self?

Based on Pia Melody and Jan Bergstrom's work.
A child needs to receive love, guidance, physical & emotional protection, nurturance and resources in order to be able to feel loved and capable to become a functioning adult. When a child doesn't receive the resources they need to grow, they often will fill in these gaps with unhealthy strategies to manage the difficult experiences, emotions and stressors. We also must learn to provide the essential compassion and nourishment to ourself and reach for healthy love, respect & regard, humility and godly consideration. If we do not have a godly and healthy love for knowing our needs and our self-care, we will not be motivated to take care of ourselves in beneficial ways.
If your basic needs for nurturing, limits, protection, and support were not met by neglectful or self–absorbed parents, you will have a difficult time knowing how to meet those needs now. It is as if there is a disconnect inside you –figuring out between what you need and providing for yourself. These core areas are essential to living a joyful and vibrant life, with True Freedom. You don't have to look with wonder at others who are motivated to take care of themself and assertive.

Isaiah 30:20-21
And though the Lord give you the bread of adversity and the water of affliction, yet your Teacher will not hide himself anymore, but your eyes shall see your Teacher. And your ears shall hear a word behind you, saying, “This is the way, walk in it,” when you turn to the right or when you turn to the left.

HEALING OUR CORE ISSUES
Developmental and Relational Trauma
&
utilizes material from the work of
Mother Hunger & Motherless Daughters

Is a developmental and relational trauma model based on the belief that individuals who have experienced suffering in their lives can receive relief, healing and experience joy again.

Recieving Flowers

*"We can’t heal what we don’t know, and if we can’t talk about It, we can’t do much about it”

"What we feel, we can heal. What we embrace gives us grace. What we resist, persists. "

"We are simply not powerful enough to mess up God's plans for our lives. He is in all of it and not deterred by our past or future. So don't get in His way."

*“Maternal love is our first experience of what love feels like, and the maternal care we receive informs how we feel about ourselves throughout life.”

*Kelly McDaniel

Regard for self and your esteem.

How was your early life impacted? Were there events & gaps in your childhood that interfere with the person God made you to be? Are you living today being present for this moment or in the tread of yesterday's pain? Do you want to have a framework to function as an emotionally healthy adult who isn't striving through your own strength exhausted and overwhelmed?

Boundaries

Boundaries come from the inside out. God is clear about our faith and his word. As you seek him, how do you protect yourself from others physically and emotionally?  Do you allow the world, others, or your thoughts to control your direction and influence? How do you protect others from yourself? Do you want to learn how to increase your internal and external boundaries ? Do you want to learn how to rely on him to guard you and filter out what doesn't belong?

What is reality? What is the truth about you?

When you look inward  to assess your needs, can you see the truth and can you separate the facts from the truth? Facts are important because they give us information and help us to make decisions moving forward; truth reminds us who we are and where our strength comes from.

Do you look outside of yourself   to determine what you need and want? Are you able to live in reality? Or, are you caught up in a cycle of denying what is truth?

Self-Care and Interdependence

How do you get your needs

and wants met ?
Are you dependent on others more than you want, or  overly independent and self reliant, protective of self at the expense of feeling isolated or alone? Do you guard yourself from being vulnerable and transparent? Or, Do expose all your vulnerabilities with abandon struggling with sharing too much and then feeling vulnerable?

Balance and Moderation

Do you live in extremes, black and white , all or nothing thinking or can you come to the middle and recognize the importance of balance in your life? Are you able to view others, self and your situations with curiosity, grace and compassionate warm regard without losing reality, or do you get stuck in shame and judgement of intrinsic value?  Can you adjust yourself and find the healthy middle ground in your life?

My Personal Beliefs and Interests

I believe that True Freedom is vital for life, therefore when we have faith intersecting with heart & mind, we are able to face the demands of reality with courage. Often our fears both unconscious and conscious are what keep us stuck. I believe reaching towards God and layering helpful approaches, good council, and relief, changed lives happen. Every life is fearfully and wonderfully made. To me, freedom is synonymous with health & well-being to think, live & be at peace in the world & our soul. I trust that everyone can grow at any time in their lives when they have the faith, support, resources & desire. My faith in Jesus gives me hope & instills a courage in me to go beyond what I believe is possible & I know that is true for you. Often people who develop mental health issues have had pivotal experiences in their lives that have not been fully healed and where they felt out of control in their own abilities. You will see me on the front lines standing for freedom ... for every one... For their health, life and ability to make positive and healing choices.

It is essential to keep in mind that therapy alone is not a quick fix: therapy, intersecting your faith, instilling hope and neuroexperiential modalities ( Emotional Freedom Technique, Brainspotting, Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing) are all part of the healing process that necessitates participation and investment from the patient and therapist alike. But in the end, sharing the journey, through small changes made to self-defeating behavior, healing trauma that has held you back and coping with feelings of sadness, fear, and pain can bring life-altering results.

EMDR & BRAINSPOTTING

HEAL CORE TRAUMA • PROCESS PAINFUL EMOTIONS • EMPOWER YOURSELF
MOVE FORWARD IN YOUR LIFE

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) and Brainspotting (BSP) are both amazing and faster methods of healing trauma,  & shifting stuck patterns.  Both methods can treat any kind of trauma, including abuse, PTSD, relational, development, medical, combat, bullying, accident traumas; either single incident, or chronic multi-incident traumas as well as anxiety.  They can also help create new types of behaviors and thoughts which can facilitate a more grounded, peaceful and calm sense of oneself and ability to relate to the world outside of oneself.  They  help with creating performance enhancement in athletes and performers in addition to helping individuals focus on their purpose and direction to take.  EMDR and BSP can help create positive changes in any area of life one would want, if there is motivation towards healing and growing.

A major difference between these modalities and traditional talk therapy is that these modalities tend to help people dive deeper, work on the core issues in a more focused way, and get relief more quickly.  I use these modalities within the framework of a traditional therapy relationship.  Sometimes clients prefer to work session after session using EMDR or BSP, and other clients prefer to alternate this kind of work with a traditional talk therapy session.

There are a variety of benefits to each of these methods.  I work with each client  in a unique way to determine which method to use.  Both EMDR and BSP are body based therapies, which use a form of bilateral stimulation (through hand held tappers, eye movement, or alternating sound), an alternating focus on re-experiencing the distressing material in a controlled safe way, and being in the safe here and now of my office, and possibly with a powerful healing image.  Both give high priority to attending to the inner experience of the felt sense, including body sensations.

I can often help a client in a single incident trauma  to attain significant relief in one or two sessions.  In developmental or relational trauma, or multi-incident trauma, it can take  more sessions to feel healed.

I have attained EMDR and BSP training and  certification.

What is Brainspotting?

David Grand, PH.D

Learn about Brainspotting and the importance of how your body and brain are affected by "where you look". Both BSP and EMDR are treatment options that provide healing for trauma and other areas of suffering.
